			<title>South Bumby road improvements</title>
			<link>http://colonialtown.org/content/view/163/116/</link>
			<description>
Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Last Monday, July 26th, the Orlando City Council approved a contract with
Hubbard Construction Company to begin plans for Bumby Avenue improvements. The
City had solicited bids for the removal, reclaiming and replacement of asphalt
pavement on Bumby Avenue from Hillcrest Street to South Street. Along with the
complete resurfacing of Bumby, we will also be replacing or installing
sidewalks, wheelchair ramps and pedestrian crossing facilities throughout the
same area. The winning bid by Hubbard to complete this project was
$987,970.70.

These improvements along Bumby have always been a priority of mine but, we
have been unable to achieve this goal due to budget constraints. The current
economy and subsequent budget cuts have further compounded this problem. The
construction costs will be reimbursed through a Local Agency Program Agreement
(LAP) with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) using funds provided
by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The only local tax
dollars that will be used in this project that are not ARRA reimbursable for
City project management, construction engineering and inspection services,
consultant contract administration for compliance with Federal and ARRA
requirements and consultant post-design services will be $175,000 from gas-tax
funds.

I am happy that South Bumby Avenue, one of the most heavily traveled
arterials in Orlando, will finally be improved and provide District 4 residents
and City travelers with a smooth driving surface. Please feel free to call or
email me if you have any questions or would like any additional information
about this much-needed and long-awaited project.

Sincerely,
-----
Patty Sheehan

			<title>neighborhood center facelift</title>
			<link>http://colonialtown.org/content/view/162/116/</link>
			<description>
The Colonialtown Neighborhood Center had a much-needed facelift thanks to donations from the designers of the Carroll Adams Group and IKEA!

The official re-dedication of the neighborhood center was on Thursday, July 15th. Commissioner Patty Sheehan, designer Ted Carroll and kids from the neighborhood center cut the ribbon for the big day. Stop by and check out the facility -- the kids love the colors and the fabulous donated art!
