Happy Holidays to all in Colonialtown! I hope everyone has a great time with friends and family. Before I write my column, I wanted to clarify that Loch Haven Veterinary Clinic will not be relocating to Colonialtown. While we would have welcomed a new business to the area, they will remain at their current location, very convenient to all in Coloniatlown.
While doing your holiday shopping, I encourage
everyone to patronize businesses in the Mills-50 Mainstreet area.
Mills-50 is doing special gift tags for anyone buying gift certificates
or items at one of the local businesses. And there are plenty of one of
a kind retailers in our area, ranging from Wild Woman Chocolates,
Dandelion Tea, Seven Sisters Coffee, Funky Monkey Wine Company, among
many others. See the Mills50.org website for more information and
businesses to choose from. We also welcome Ryan Bumgardner to Mills-50
as the new coordinator for the area. Ryan has a lot of energy and ideas
for making the business district one of the best in Orlando.
The holidays are upon us and I need to stress a
bit of holiday safety to everyone, especially in light of our holiday
lighting contest. I will never forget a fire that was caused in an
apartment complex. It was cold, and the tenant had plugged an electric
blanket in an extension cord that did not have a grounding plug. He cut
off the ground, plugged the blanket into the cord, but somehow walked
away from the blaze that ensued. Several other tenants were homeless
for the night as well. Always make sure that all lights are used
according to the safety instructions. They always tell you how many
strands can be connected. If grounded plugs are used, make sure they
are placed in a grounded outlet or extension cord. And make sure that
your fire alarms are checked and have current batteries. If you have a
fireplace, check your carbon monoxide detectors as well. These few
safety tips could potentially save a life!
I wish you all a great holiday season! |
