CNA Community Garden
We will be building the Community Garden behind the neighborhood pool and the parking lot of the Colonialtown neighborhood Center, along the green space that parallels Spokane Ave.  Our bylaws state that anyone who wants a 4x8 plot in the garden, must pay their dues and show up to all 3 workdays (or send a household surrogate worker) to qualify.  There are 6 plots left for potential neighborhood members.

You must live within the Colonialtown North neighborhood to qualify (Nebraska, Forest, Corrine to the north, Bumby to the east, Colonial to the south, and Mills to the west).

Mark your calendars and forward to all interested neighbors - your Community Garden officers have met, and have set aside the following dates and work days to build the garden this February.

Saturday, January 30th, 10 a.m. - noon:  Garden plot registration.  Come to the garden site, where we will have a map of the future garden plots to choose from.  First come, first served.  Bring proof of address (such as a utility bill or credit card bill), checks for $15.00 made out to Keep Orlando Beautiful (we will not accept cash or credit cards).  You can select your plot, pay your dues, decide which 'community job' you'd like (inspection committee, grounds/maintenance committee, compost crew, communication team, celebration team) and receive a copy of the bylaws and a certificate proving plot ownership at that time.  If you cannot attend, send a surrogate to stand in for you (make sure they bring the docs required).  This is the only time to sign up for a plot this year, so plan ahead and be sure to be there!  (It was the fairest system we could think of).  We will start a waiting list if we need to, based on the folks who attend the registration day.

Saturday, February 6:  Work Day #1 - 8 a.m. - 2 p.m (approximate).  Every family who paid dues is required to send at least one family member to work on this day, where we will be marking out the bed locations and removing sod.  The fence will already be installed by professional contractors before this work day.

CNA Community Garden
Hello, all!

This is a friendly reminder that next Wednesday, June 17th, Leu Gardens is hosting another Community Garden workshop.

...Due to staff availability, the canning workshop we'd originally scheduled for the 17th will not be held - instead, Ed Thralls from the Orange County IFAS Extension office will:

1.  Answer any specific garden questions you may have, such as:  "Why do my squash leaves look white/wrinkly?" "How can I tell when my watermelons are ready?" etc.
2.  Give a presentation on "minor", or exotic, vegetables - some of which can stand the summer heat.

Please spread the news of this workshop, remember to remind your folks to register ahead of time by calling me at (407) 246-3996.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Interested? You must attend the organizational meeting to apply for a space to garden. We will create a garden council and approve the design of the garden at this meeting. ... A community garden has individual garden plots that neighbors 'rent' for a year, and are able to grow their own veggies, fruit and flowers in that plot.

Water is provided.

The garden will be located near the new playground on Fern Creek Ave."
